Eat - Divan Restaurant and Hookah Lounge The word divan, which is defined as “a long, cushioned seat, usually without arms or back, placed against a wall, as in Oriental countries,” aptly captures the mood at the Persian-inspired Divan Restaurant and Hookah Lounge. The atmosphere of the converted home in Buckhead is set up for relaxation and intimate lounging, making it an ideal date place or after-hours spot with friends. Red and yellow tones create a warm, welcoming space that invites deep conversation. My guest and I both kick the night off with a Pomegranate Martini ($9.50), and move on to sample the Mezza, or small plates ($4 to $7). The flavorful and full-bodied Traditional Hummus goes well with the Dolmah basmati rice, seasoned beef and herbs wrapped in grapevine leaves. Also available are Kashka Bodemjoon, an eggplant dish with caramelized onion, cream of whey, mint oil and warm pita, and Mushroom Spinakopitta with spinach, mushrooms, cheese and tarragon. The plate fills us up so much that we choose to split a main dish, the light and flaky Pan Seared Tilapia ($10). Many guests opt to top off their meal with a round at the hookah, an ancient water pipe that uses a mixture of fruit-flavored molasses and a minimal amount of tobacco. Flavors include blackberry, peach and French vanilla ($15), and make for the perfect ending to an exotic dining experience. |
